They also have proof galleries online that they will share with all of their friends and family. Knowing how many people will view these "proof" photos, it's obvious that a photographer would want to make them look as good as possible. The whole concept of unfinished proofs seems to be falling by the wayside as everyone tries to find ways to avoid paying for a finished product. By paying for the photographer at all, many feel that they have already paid for the images.
